Let’s kick out cancer together: VAIBS for Alpe d’HuZes 2025!

Cycling, running, football, volleyball, swimming… Our VAIBS colleagues are also fanatical outside the workplace. So how nice is it when you can link your sporting ambition to a good cause? What is Alpe d’HuZes?

Alpe d’HuZes, upcoming edition held on Thursday 5 June, is a unique sporting event that raises as much money as possible for cancer research and for improving the quality of life of people with cancer. On the first Thursday of June, 5,000 participants will climb Alpe d’Huez, a mountain in the French Alps, by cycling, running or walking. The road to the summit has 21 turns and is 14.5 kilometres long. The altitude difference between start and finish is 1,100 metres with an average gradient of 7.9%. Over 226 million euros have been raised since 2006.

Why is team VAIBS participating in Alpe d’HuZes?

As many as 1 in 2 Dutch people face cancer. Both directly and indirectly, this disease has caused a lot of suffering, including at team VAIBS. When we personally heard from someone that she owed her life to a direct contribution from Alpe d’Huzes, we decided not to watch from the sidelines, but to also want to contribute to treatment and research of this terrible disease.

Cycling to the top

Team VAIBS will take part in Alpe d’Huzes 2025 by bike, with the men allowed to climb the Alpe d’Huez a maximum of six times. A tough challenge, which of course contrasts sharply with the challenge cancer patients face every day. Under the motto ‘Giving up is not an option’ team VAIBS tries to raise as much money as possible for cancer research and to improve the quality of life of people with cancer.
