Amarijn

ARTIS is the oldest zoo in the Netherlands and an icon in the heart of Amsterdam. The park is known for its open and accessible feel, right in the middle of the capital. Visitors stroll past monumental buildings, old trees and unique animal enclosures. It is precisely this open location, with low fences and multiple access routes from the street and waterfront, that makes the grounds vulnerable to unauthorised entry.
ARTIS wants to welcome visitors in a welcoming and open environment, but its central location in Amsterdam requires robust security at the same time. At night, surveillance is carried out from the on-site control room, supported by physical rounds by security guards. However, the technological aids present created a lot of noise: moving branches in the wind, light reflections and car lights led to a constant stream of false alarms. This made the work unnecessarily intensive and wasted valuable time.
With Vaidio, Artis now has a smart solution that monitors the park’s outer ring 24/7. Vaidio continuously analyses the camera images and automatically recognises when someone tries to enter the grounds outside opening hours. As soon as such a situation occurs, a notification is immediately sent to the invigilator’s smartphone via the Vaidio app. This keeps the security guard informed at all times, even when he is not sitting behind the monitors in the control room, but walking a round through the park.
